Darren M. Pylot
President & CEO and Director
Darren Pylot founded Capstone Mining in 2002. Under his leadership, the Company has grown from a single asset company operating the Cozamin Mine, into a mid-cap copper producer, developer and exploration company by merging with Sherwood Copper (Minto and Kutcho), acquiring Far West Mining (Santo Domingo), developing the strategic partnership with Korea Resources Corporation and acquiring the Pinto Valley Mine from BHP Billiton. Darren has over 20 years of executive management experience in the resource sector.
D. James Slattery
Senior Vice President and CFO
Jim Slattery has over 30 years of financial and executive management experience, with the last eight years spent as the CFO of Inmet Mining Corporation, a Canadian-based global copper and zinc producer. Before joining Inmet, Jim held various senior management roles, including Vice President and CFO for Wescast Industries, a publicly traded automotive parts supplier, and CFO for Canadian General Tower Ltd., a privately owned manufacturing business. He has broad management and corporate finance experience, including jointly developing and executing Inmet's integrated growth strategy and leading financing activities for mine development projects totalling over $5 billion. Jim started his career with Ernst & Young, progressing through a number of roles in Canada and Europe from 1981 to 1997.
Jim is a Canadian chartered accountant.
Gregg B. Bush
Senior Vice President & COO
Gregg Bush is a Metallurgical Engineer with 30 years of experience in feasibility, mine development, operations, international M&A strategies, permitting, alternative infrastructure projects supporting mine development and project engineering. He is fluent in Spanish and has experience in operations based in Chile, USA, Mexico and Canada. Gregg is responsible for the operations of the Pinto Valley, Cozamin and Minto mines as well as the development of organic growth opportunities for Capstone.
Gregg was most recently the COO of Minefinders Corporation Ltd. (2007-2010) where he helped developed its growth strategy and was responsible for the construction and commissioning of its first mine. From 1990-2007 he worked at Placer Dome and later Barrick, going from Plant Superintendent to Mine General Manager where his operation achieved certification under ISO 14001 in 2002. Twelve years of that time were spent in Chile, where he was the Mine General Manager of the Zaldivar Mine in northern Chile, a 320 million pound per year copper operation, and Operations Manager and Plant Superintendent of the La Coipa Project, a 17,000 tonne per day precious metals operation approximately 140 kilometres northwest of Copiapó.
Gregg started his career as a metallurgist with Chino Mines Company, a Division of Kennecott Copper. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso.
Brad J. Mercer
Senior Vice President, Exploration
Brad Mercer leads Capstone's exploration team, credited with discovering nine copper-gold deposits in six years at our Minto Mine, Yukon, Canada. The exploration team, under Brad's leadership, is currently continuing their success at the Cozamin Mine, in Mexico with the discovery of the Mala Noche Footwall Zone. Brad is also overseeing exploration on the former Far West properties.
Brad graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1984 with a Bachelor of Earth Science. He is a Professional Geoscientist registered with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of the Northwest Territories.
For the past 30 years, Brad has managed mineral exploration programs and participated in feasibility evaluations of mineral properties focused in the Americas taking him from Greenland to Patagonia and he has enjoyed success leading teams who have made discoveries in areas previously considered to be well explored. In addition to successes at our Minto and Cozamin mines Brad is credited with the discovery of the Moly Brook molybdenum deposit and the Unknown Brook gold deposit, located in Newfoundland, Canada.
Robert S. Blusson
Vice President, Finance
Rob leads Capstone Mining's financial reporting team, responsible for regulatory reporting, internal controls and budgeting. He joined Capstone Mining as the Corporate Controller in December 2008, having previously worked with Lundin Mining and Eurozinc Mining. Prior to that he worked in the Industrial Markets group at KPMG, where he specialized in mining. Rob is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia.
Cindy L. Burnett
Vice President, Investor Relations and Communications
Cindy Burnett is responsible for Capstone Mining's investor, media and external communications. She has over 15 years of investor relations and communications experience and has worked in the mining, energy and chemical industries. Cindy was most recently Vice President of Investor Relations at Western Lithium and prior to that was Vice President of Investor Relations at Skye Resources Inc. (which merged with HudBay Minerals Inc.). She previously was Vice President of Investor Relations at Ivanhoe Energy Inc. and prior to that spent over 25 years with NOVA Chemicals and the Alberta Gas Trunk Line Company in both Canada and the U.S. in a number of corporate roles, including investor relations, legal, securities and finance, media relations and public affairs.
Peter T. Hemstead
Vice President, Marketing & Treasurer
Peter Hemstead joined Sherwood Copper in November 2006, as Treasurer, after 10 years of employment with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, in Toronto and Vancouver. At Sherwood, Peter was responsible for the company's treasury activities through the construction of the Minto Mine, subsequent mining operations, acquisition of Western Keltic Mines, and the merger with Capstone. Peter became VP, Marketing and Treasurer of Capstone where he is responsible for all banking and credit facility matters, funding and cash flow requirements, management of the Minto and Cozamin off-take sales and Silver Wheaton precious metals streams, refurbishment and operation of the Port of Skagway, all tax planning and compliance, the insurance program, and the hedging program.
Jason P. Howe
Vice President, Business Development
Jason Howe, a Chartered Accountant since 1999, has worked for the last seven years in the mining industry, and was previously Chief Financial Officer of Capstone Mining. Jason has spent the last 15 years in accounting and finance and before Capstone spent eight years in public practice, including four years at PriceWaterhouseCoopers. Jason was a co-founder of Silverstone Resources Corp. and formerly served as Silverstone's Chief Financial Officer before the company was acquired by Silver Wheaton in 2009.
Wendy A. King
Vice President, Legal, Governance & Risk
Wendy is responsible for managing the legal function at Capstone, in addition to leading matters relating to corporate governance and overseeing the enterprise-wide risk management strategy. She has been practicing law for more than 17 years, 13 of which were spent as in-house counsel, and four in private practice as an international-tax specialist. She holds a Masters in International Tax Law and a Masters of Business Administration, and most recently completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. Wendy joined Capstone following her role as Senior Vice President Government Relations, General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer and Corporate Secretary at Central 1 Credit Union. Prior to this role, she served as Senior Legal Counsel with Weyerhaeuser Company Limited for nearly 10 years.
Guy R. Le Bel
Vice President, Evaluations
Guy's experience in the mining industry spans a 29 year period over which Guy has held progressively more responsible roles in a business advisory capacity. Most recently Mr. Le Bel was VP, Business Development at Quadra Mining Ltd, and prior to that held business advisory, strategy and planning, business valuation and financial planning management roles at BHP Billiton Base Metals, Rio Algom and Cambior Inc.
Guy holds an MBA Finance from École des Hautes Études Commerciales, a Master Applied Sciences, Mining Engineering - University of British Columbia and a B.Sc. Mining Engineering from Université Laval.
Gillian A. McCombie
Vice President, Human Resources
Gillian McCombie is a senior Human Resources professional with 17 years of experience in both the mining and telecommunications industries. She began her career at Placer Dome Inc. and subsequently at Hunter Dickinson Inc. She later spent five years with TELUS before joining Capstone Mining Corp. in December 2011.
Gillian has expertise in strategic recruiting, talent management, succession planning, employee engagement, policies and procedures, and international service. She is responsible for the overall Human Resource function at Capstone, which involves developing HR strategy, building the HR competency across the business, internal communications and establishing programs for retention, engagement and performance.
Gillian holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of British Columbia. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Vancouver International Marathon and is a volunteer mentor with the Minerva Foundation for BC Women.
David M. Sinitsin
Vice President, Technical Services
Dave Sinitsin is responsible for all aspects of engineering, planning and construction activities for Capstone's North American development projects.
Dave's 30 year career encompasses significant activities in the development, planning, financing, permitting and successful execution of large, international capital projects for the mining and chemical industries. This experience extends from mineral resource definition, through to planning, evaluation, design, procurement, construction and commissioning of major project facilities in the Americas, Asia and Africa.
Dave is a registered professional engineer, holding Master and Bachelor degrees of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia.
Brad E. Skeeles
Vice President, North American Operations
Brad joined Capstone Mining in August 2013, and is responsible for operations at Capstone's North American sites. Brad is a mining engineer with over 25 years' experience and has led teams ranging from 5 to 870 employees and operations from 800 to 200,000 tonnes per day in Canada, US, Peru and Australia.
Prior to joining Capstone, Brad worked with Newmont Mining Corporation in Nevada as a Project Director on a US$300 million construction project, and prior to that was the General Manager of their Hope Bay mine in Nunavut. Prior to joining Newmont, Brad was an Area Manager for a leading underground mining contractor, where he was responsible for seven operations in BC, Yukon, NWT, Saskatchewan and Ontario. He also was previously Manager of Mines and Mill at INCO's Thompson Manitoba Division, and spent 10 years at BHP as General Manager of BHP's Tintaya Mine in Peru, Mine Manager at their Ekati Mine in NWT, Construction Manager at the Cannington mine in Queensland Australia and worked in the San Francisco head office. His early career was spent in various mine engineering roles in the NWT and Ontario.
Brad is a Professional Engineer and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mining and Mineral Process Engineering from the University of British Columbia.
