Minimizing impact

Environment

We have a responsibility to minimize the impact of our activities on the natural environment.

Environmental Management Practices

We comply with all environmental laws and regulations that govern our operations. Our environmental permits set performance standards for ensuring we operate in a manner that protects the environment. We are implementing environmental management systems across the company that align with the ISO 14001:2015 standard. Our sites set environmental KPIs and internal targets to drive continuous improvement.

Air Quality

We take a multi-layered approach to manage air quality, with equipment and operational practices to minimize dust and monitor emissions. Air quality monitoring is a critical aspect of our approach, and we report all air quality results to regulators.

Biodiversity

All of our sites conduct biodiversity baseline assessments and have biodiversity management plans in place during operations and through post-mining remediation and closure plans. We undertake voluntary commitments and collaborate on external initiatives that support biodiversity protection and conservation.

Climate Change

Each of our operations has a distinct energy mix and regulatory framework, so we tailor energy management accordingly, emphasizing energy conservation and efficiency. Climate change is a strategic priority for Capstone.

Water

We recognize that access to clean water is a fundamental human right, and we must use it responsibly.

We require a reliable source of water to maintain our operations. We commit to using water efficiently, reducing the use of fresh water and reusing water whenever feasible to avoid impacts to water.

Tailings Management

Responsible tailings stewardship is a commitment in Capstone’s EHS&S Policy, as outlined in our Tailings Management Policy.
